Manchester United gave Betis a 4-1 win at Old Trafford, which could have been more, and then in Heliopolis by 0-1. In the previous round, they had to face Barcelona to draw 2-2 at the Nou Camp and then won at home by 2 goals to 1.
In the Premier League their aim is none other than to qualify for the next edition of the Champions League. The 2 most recent matches they have won, against Brentford and this Saturday’s match against Everton.
Sevilla have got this far in a much more limp manner. In the tie against PSV they played their best minutes of the season to take a 3-0 lead at the Pizjuan, but then in Holland they were 2-0 down and at least managed to hold on.
A very similar script was followed in the round of 16 tie against Fenerbahce, in which they won at home by 2-0 and then lost the second leg by 1-0.
Their path through the Spanish League is proving to be a calvary, rubbing shoulders with the relegation places when they are normally a team in the European zone. This Friday they faced Celta with a 2-2 draw.
