Entering this matchday eight points clear of the bottom three and 12 points off the top six, Borussia Mönchengladbach looked like a team already looking ahead to the summer break after failing to win in their last three games (E1, P2). In fact, the Colts’ fans literally turned their backs on the team and Daniel Farke after their last 2-1 loss in Stuttgart, so perhaps the most tangible thing they can hope for is to salvage Farke’s reputation and his job.
He could face another stern test of his credentials here after winning just one of his Bundesliga games against sides entering this matchday in the bottom three (G1, E2, P2). Improving that run against Bochum mathematically could secure Gladbach’s Bundesliga status and keep alive their faint hopes of finishing in the top half of the standings for another week.
Bochum shocked the nation by limiting Borussia Dortmund to a 1-1 draw the previous matchday to move within one point of relegation at the end of matchday 30. Thomas Letsch’s side have now lost just two of their last seven games, however, they will likely need to end a five-game winless streak if they really want their fight for permanence to stick (E3, P2).

Players to watch: This will be Lars Stindl’s penultimate home game as a Gladbach player after the midfielder announced his departure after eight years at the club, so he will be hoping to build on his 15 goals contributed this season before leaving (six goals, nine assists). For Bochum, Philipp Hoffmann (nine goals) scored the winner in the previous meeting between the two clubs in this league campaign, which was one of his two decisive goals this season.
