Besiktas returns to the Europa League after a strong campaign in the 2016/2017 season when they were eliminated in the quarterfinals by the French group Olympique Lyon. The Black Eagles were in the Champions League groups in the previous season and managed to get through that phase, but the bad luck brought Bayern Munich to the optimum stage and their way stopped there.
However, things did not go as supporters expected in the domestic championship last season’s campaign. Senol Gunes and his students missed the Champions League and now hopes to make their debut in the Europa League with a victory against Sarpsborg 08 who came to this stage for the first time in their history.
