Borussia Dortmund made it through as 2nd in Group G behind Manchester City and above Sevilla and Copenhagen. They are on a winning streak after the World Cup break, beating Bochum in the German Cup, and Augsburg, Mainz, Bayer Leverkusen, Freiburg and most recently Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga. In the latter clash on Saturday they won 2-0 with goals from Bynoe-Gittens and Julian Brandt.
Chelsea started the group stage with a surprising defeat against Dynamo Zagreb, but they managed to finish top of Group E thanks to winning their last 4 matches, including 2 against Milan, the other qualifier from this group.
Since the Qatari World Cup, they have left a lot to be desired, winning only the matches against Crystal Palace and Bournemouth. The rest of the matches have been draws with Nottingham, Liverpool, Fulham and West Ham, and defeats against Manchester City and Fulham, in addition to the elimination from the FA Cup at the hands of the Citizens.
Thus, they remain in 9th position in the Premier League, 8 points away from Europe.
