Fulham – Nottingham : Preview & Prediction
After securing their passage to the last 16 of the FA Cup without major problems in midweek, Fulham will now look to get their Premier League (PL) campaign back on track after a recent dip in form. The Cottagers have failed to win any of their last three league games (E1, P2), although those results came against Newcastle, Tottenham and Chelsea, respectively.
Despite that poor recent performance, this is still Fulham’s best points tally at this stage of a PL season in their history, with Marco Silva’s side just two points off a top-six finish. If they are to elbow their way into European contention, showing more solidity in the defensive zone will be key, with only Tottenham having conceded more than Fulham’s 30 goals among top-half clubs.
Nottingham Forest may prove to be the perfect visitors, having only scored three league away goals this season, fewer than any team in the top divisions of English soccer! However, things are far from gloomy, as that record might suggest, with Steve Cooper’s side unbeaten in five league games (G3, E2), a run that helped them out of the relegation battle.
The Welshman said he was “not happy with the performance” despite his side’s 1-0 win over Leeds last time out — of their six league wins so far, five have been by that scoreline. However, he will definitely be pleased with the fact that that win generated a six-unit gap over the relegation zone, with survival in the top flight becoming an increasingly likely possibility for the Tricky Trees, who are now as close to Chelsea (9th) as they are to the bottom three.
Players to watch: Fulham attacker Aleksandar Mitrović has scored four goals in eight career appearances against Forest, who will likely rely on Brennan Johnson as he has contributed at least one goal in each of his last four PL appearances (three goals, two assists).
