Getafe – Almeria Prediction (26-04-2023)

Getafe – Almeria : Preview & Prediction

Time flies in LaLiga Santander (LL) 2022-23, and the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez hosts one of the most important duels of the 31st matchday. Getafe, 16th at the start of the matchday, hosts Almería, 17th with just one point less. The Madrid side is on the verge of the red zone after four games without a win (E2, P2), the last of which ended in a 3-1 defeat against Mallorca at Son Moix, despite a favourable half-time lead. Blue and Whites’ coach, Quique Sánchez Flores, did not hide his anger at the performance of his players in the second 45 minutes against Mallorca: “We had the choice between shit or good and we have chosen shit for the rest of the season and we have to suffer”.
Scoring regularly at home is crucial for teams fighting to avoid relegation, and Getafe have shown great solidity at the Coliseum of late, having now gone five consecutive matches unbeaten at their stadium (G3, E2). Extending that run against a direct rival would go a long way towards salvation, and their home record against Almeria is certainly encouraging: Getafe have never lost an LL match at home to the Almeria club (G3, E3).
“I leave quite satisfied with today’s game,” said Almeria coach Rubi after losing 2-1 to Athletic Club. A surprising statement from the red-and-white coach, whose team is on a two-game losing streak and remains out of the relegation zone at the start of this matchday thanks only to a one-to-one record with Valencia, 18th in the table.
Away from home, the only team with a clean sheet in the current championship (4/42 points – E4, P10). In the five major European leagues, only Hellas Verona and Almeria have yet to win on the road this season, and the last away win of the Almeria team in the Spanish top flight dates back to February 2015. Whether or not that long-awaited away win comes, entertainment in the form of goals is not likely to be lacking at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez: Almería’s matches record the highest scoring average (2.93 p. p.) in the current championship.
Players to watch: Getafe’s only goal so far in April has borne the signature of striker Borja Mayoral, who has scored after the 75th minute three of his seven goals in LL 2022-23. Leo Baptistão has three goals less in the championship, but one of them gave Almería the three points against Getafe in the first leg (1-0). Five of the seven matches he has played against Getafe have ended in wins for his team (G5, P2).
Series highlight: Each of the last four meetings between Getafe and Almeria in LL has resulted in a 1-0 win for the home side (GET: G1, P3).
