Getafe – Celta Vigo Prediction (03-05-2023)

Getafe – Celta Vigo : Preview & Prediction

With just six games left in this exciting LaLiga Santander (LL) campaign, it is time for Getafe, 19th, two points from the safety zone after matchday 32, to react. The azulón side have picked up just two points from the last 18 possible (E2, P4), a dismal record that brings them closer to the brink of their first relegation from the top flight since 2015-16.
Getafe face a real final against a dangerous but inconsistent Celta Vigo, against whom the Madrid club has a good home record in the first division (11 duels: G6, E3, P2). However, Los Azulones have been held to a draw in their last three meetings with the Celestes at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez (E2, P1), the most recent of which ended in a resounding 3-0 win for the Vigo side. Beaten away from home by Espanyol in the first match of the second period under José Bordalás, Getafe can’t fail this Wednesday at the Coliseum, where they lost to a direct rival last week (GET 1-2 Almería).

In no man’s land, Celta are practically saved, but their chances of competing in Europe next season have been reduced to the minimum. Carlos Carvalhal’s side will not give up and will be looking to end a poor away run – seven goals conceded in their last three outings (E1, P2) – with a win that would take them above 40 points.
Under Carvalhal (20 LL games: G7, E7, P6), Celta have greatly improved their performances, but the results in the final stretch of the championship have left much to be desired. The Celeste, who have won just one of the last six matches (G1, E2, P3), visit the Coliseum after losing 3-1 away to Villarreal in a game in which they paid dearly for defensive errors and a lack of forcefulness in the opponent’s area. Defensive fragility is a serious problem to be solved by Celta, which records the second highest number of goals conceded away from home after min 75 at the start of this matchday (eight).
Players to watch: Borja Mayoral has been Getafe’s only goal scorer in the last six matchdays, but neither of his two goals in those games have prevented his team’s defeat. In contrast, Celta’s last six goals in LL have been scored by different players. Of those six goals, only one by Joseph Aidoo gave Celta the win; the rocky Ghanaian center-back’s last seven goals in club matches have all been headers.
Key stat: Prior to this matchday, only Girona have reached halftime with a draw in a greater number of LL home games (11) than Getafe (10).
