It’s the Champions League Round of 8 clash! Inter Milan and Atlético Madrid have booked their place in the quarter-finals of Europe’s premier club competition. The first leg will take place at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, this Tuesday at 9pm. Finalists in the last edition of the C1, the Italian club are obliged to host in this first leg, due to their 2nd place in the group phase, behind Real Sociedad. Simone Inzaghi’s team are the clear leaders in Serie A, and will be keen to put themselves in the best possible frame of mind before their trip to Spain. For their part, Atlético de Madrid have been very solid in the group phase and remain in 4th position in La Liga. The Colchoneros will be hoping to achieve something special in the first leg.
In Serie A, Inter Milan are leaving nothing to chance. They have just won their last 7 matches and are well established at the top. To cap it all, Simone Inzaghi’s team won the Italian Supercup in January. The Nerazzurri will now be aiming to shine in the Champions League. Finalists last season, they had to settle for 2nd place in Group D in the group phase, behind Real Sociedad. The Lombardy outfit will be looking to step up their game in the knockout rounds. For their part, Atlético Madrid finished top of their C1 group, ahead of Lazio Rome and Feyenoord among others. In La Liga, Los Colchoneros are in 4th position. After a 2-day winless streak, they bounced back with a 5-0 victory over Las Palmas last weekend. This should give them plenty of confidence going into the first leg of their Champions League Round of 8 tie.
Inter Milan will have a few absentees. Simone Inzaghi will be without Juan Cuadrado, Francesco Acerbi and Stefano Sensi. However, the Nerazzurri have other arguments in their favor. In particular, they can count on their particularly prolific striker duo: Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram. The former has 23 goals and 5 assists in all competitions, while the latter has 12 goals and 11 assists in all competitions. Atlético de Madrid, meanwhile, have not been spared physical problems. César Azpilicueta, Gabriel Paulista, Vitolo, Thomas Lemar and Alvaro Morata will not be available. Naturally, Antoine Griezmann will be at the center of attention. The French striker has 18 goals and 7 assists to his name in all competitions.
