Las Palmas – Real Sociedad : Preview & Prediction
After two games, UD Las Palmas and Real Sociedad have yet to win in LaLiga EA Sports (LL) 2023-24. UD will be hoping that the reunion with their fans will serve as an impetus to defeat a top opponent and open their winning streak, which would end their streak of seven league matches without a draw at the Estadio de Gran Canaria (E6, P1).
Interestingly, the Yellows have opened the scoring before the 30th minute in three of the six draws recorded during this streak, but Xavi García Pimienta’s side continue to struggle to finish games off. After losing 1-0 at Mestalla last matchday, García Pimienta assessed his team’s play positively, although he acknowledged the need to “be deeper and generate many more dangerous situations”. This Friday, the Yellows face a club against whom they have not scored in three of the last four LL duels played in Las Palmas.
Real Sociedad’s first outing of the current season, which let victory slip in the closing stages against Girona and Celta Vigo (1-1, 1-1) after breaking the 0-0 lead early on and going into the break ahead. The txuri-urdin coach, Imanol Alguacil, lamented his team’s poor second half in the clash with Celta, noting that “we were very imprecise with the ball”.
Alguacil said he was “very calm” despite the consecutive draws at the Reale Arena, recalling that many of his players are not in the best physical condition. In the first trip of the current campaign, Real will try to assert their status as favorites and improve the poor balance of their visits to UDLP in Primera (G6, E8, P17). With their Champions League 2023-24 group stage debut just around the corner, the Blue and Whites need to start making it three out of three as soon as possible.
Players to watch: Skilful midfielder Jonathan Viera has scored UDLP’s only goal so far in the championship, and his last four goals have opened his side’s scoring account from the penalty spot. Takefusa Kubo, increasingly important for Real, has been directly involved in both of the Blue and Whites’ goals in the current campaign. The young Japanese winger closed out the match’s scoring with three of his four away goals in LL 2022-23.
