Mallorca – Getafe : Preview & Prediction
Two of the three teams that have drawn in five of their first ten games in LaLiga EA Sports (LL) 2023-24 will meet this Saturday at the Estadio Mallorca Son Moix, and a sixth draw would be an insufficient result for both. RCD Mallorca, who lost by the minimum last Saturday at the Reale Arena (Real Sociedad 1-0 RCDM), links an alarming streak of five games without a win (E3, P2) and is on the verge of the relegation zone, which marks Celta Vigo at the beginning of this round with two points less than the Balearic team.
After ten matchdays, Mallorca is one of the three teams that have yet to win at home this season (E3, P1). However, considering that all three of their home draws came against clubs currently in the top half of the table, Javier Aguirre’s side should approach the clash against Getafe with the utmost confidence, even though they have failed to hold three leads in their last two LL matches in Palma.
Getafe also failed to hold a favorable scoreline in their last away clash against Mallorca (23-4-2023), in which they went into halftime leading 1-0 and ended up losing 3-1. A week later, José Bordalás made his debut in his second stint as coach of the Madrid club, replacing Quique Sánchez Flores. Los Azulones continue to squander advantages, something that happened to them on their trips to the Bernabéu (Real Madrid 2-1 GET) and Balaídos (Celta 2-2 GET), in which a Borja Mayoral goal broke the 0-0 scoreline.
With 11 points -a better record than at this point in their previous two campaigns- Getafe can look forward to the current league campaign with optimism. Eleventh before this matchday, the Blue and Whites have four draws to their name, three of them without being favourites. Away form is the unfinished business for Bordalás’ side; Getafe have yet to win on the road this season and have been held to draws in 17 of their last 18 LL outings, a run that dates back to November 2022.
Players to watch: Like the rest of his teammates, Vermilion striker and Kosovar international Vedat Muriqi failed to score last matchday, ending a personal streak of five games scoring or assisting (G4, A2). Borja Mayoral, undoubtedly one of Getafe’s most in-form players, has had a direct hand in each of Los Azulones’ three most recent goals (G2, A1). Of the Madrid striker’s five goals this season, four have come before the break.
