Day 3 of Ligue 1 is already underway! And it’s all set for a showdown between FC Nantes and AS Monaco. The 2 teams will clash this Friday at 9:00 pm at La Beaujoire. They’ve clearly not had the same start to the season. FC Nantes, who survived last season’s relegation battle on a knife-edge, are back on track to fight for survival. However, they have yet to pick up a single point. The opposite is true of AS Monaco. Now coached by Adi Hütter, the principality’s club has got off to a perfect start. After the first 2 days, they’re full to bursting point.
FC Nantes have been far from brilliant in the early stages of the season. The Canaris began with a home defeat to Toulouse FC (1-2). They were then toppled by their last opponents in the French Cup final. Pierre Aristouy’s men were unable to get back on track the following day at LOSC. They failed to pick up a point after falling behind late on (2-0). AS Monaco are in an entirely different state of form. The principality club got off to a flying start with a 2-4 win over Clermont. Adi Hütter’s men followed this up with a comprehensive 3-0 win over RC Strasbourg.
FC Nantes will have to make do without Fabien Centonze and, above all, Alban Lafont. The absence of the young goalkeeper, who was injured on Matchday 1, is a terrible blow for the Canaris. Rémy Descamps will take his place in the starting XI during his absence. The 27-year-old goalkeeper nevertheless made a strong impression against LOSC. He’ll still have his work cut out against AS Monaco. Breel Embolo will be out for the Principality. Mohammed Salisu is still doubtful for this new Ligue 1 matchday. Takumi Minamino is one of the men in form at the start of the season. He has already scored 2 goals and provided 2 assists in just 2 matchdays. And Wissam Ben Yedder is also feeling confident, with 3 goals in Ligue 1.
