Plzen – Sonderjyske : Preview & Prediction
Second in the last Czech Republic championship, Viktoria Plzen was aiming to participate in the Champions League this season. Unfortunately for the club, founded in 1911, the magic did not operate on AZ Alkmaar’s turf in the second qualifying round, overtaking Adrian Gua’s men in the third C3 qualifying round. Against Sonderjyske, winner of the Danish Cup last year but narrowly saved in the league, the Czechs’ new goal is therefore clear: to join Hapoel Beer Sheva or Motherwell in the Playoffs, to reach the pools of the Europa League. A goal well within the grasp of Frenchman Jean-David Beauguel and his teammates, who shouldn’t have too much trouble against a club that has never done better than an eighth place in Denmark over the past three seasons.
Viktoria Plzen is a regular at the European Cups. Not Sonderjyske.
Against Alkmaar in the Champions League Qualifying, Plzen held the win until the 90th minute in the Netherlands.
Plzen remains on two consecutive victories, against Mlada Boleslav (2-1) and Bohemians 1905 (1-4).
Sonderjyske has just been humiliated in the Danish league, with the promoted Vejle Kolding (4-1).
In official matches, Sonderjyske has won just 3 of his last 13 trips.
Superior on paper, Viktoria Plzen should win this Thursday on the lawn of his Doosan Arena. Much too tender for the highest European level, Sonderjyske will not stand up to the many internationals on the Czech side.
