PSV – Dortmund Prediction (20-02-2024)

PSV – Dortmund : Preview & Prediction

The first legs of the Champions League Round of 8 are just around the corner! The double-header between PSV Eindhoven and Borussia Dortmund is one of the most eagerly-awaited, as it remains particularly indecisive. The first leg will be played this Tuesday at 9pm at the Philips Stadion, PSV Eindhoven’s home ground. The Eredivisie champions have a firm grip on the title, and are dreaming of a place in Europe’s premier club competition. Opposite them are Borussia Dortmund. Despite only finishing 4th in the Bundesliga, the German outfit shone in the group phase of the C1, topping the group of death ahead of PSG, AC Milan and Newcastle United.

PSV Eindhoven certainly couldn’t have hoped for a better start to the Champions League Round of 8. The Dutch club is still unbeaten in the Eredivisie (20 wins and 2 draws) and easily tops its league. Peter Bosz’s team are in Group B of the UEFA Champions League, and have done all they could to take 2nd place behind Arsenal. In fact, they lost just one match in the group phase, 4-0 to the Gunners. The Dutch team must certainly have high ambitions against Borussia Dortmund. The latter shone in the group phase of the C1, topping Group F, the group of death, ahead of PSG, AC Milan and Newcastle United. However, Edin Terzic’s men are far from shining in the Bundesliga, where they are only in 4th place. Even though they are unbeaten in their last 8 games, BVB are likely to be ruffled throughout the first leg.

PSV Eindhoven won’t have a full squad for this Champions League Round of 8 first leg. Peter Bosz will not be able to count on Noa Lang. It is not yet known whether Armel Bella-Kotchap and Johan Bakayoko will be available for this crucial encounter. The Dutch club will be relying heavily on Luuk de Jong to cause problems for the opposing defence. The 33-year-old striker has scored 27 goals in all competitions this season. Borussia Dortmund will also be missing a number of players. Felix Nmecha, Julien Duranville, Karim Adeyemi and Sébastien Haller will not be present. Ramy Bensebaïni remains doubtful. Edin Terzic will be relying on the fine form of Niclas Füllkrug. He has scored 5 goals and provided 2 assists in his last 6 Bundesliga games.
