Denmark are back on the pitch after two defeats with Finland (1-0) and Belgium (2-1) and for the second time after the drama experienced in the debut match with the Eriksen affair. The players gave a great response in the match against Belgium, playing on par with a top talent team. Having taken the lead with Poulsen just two minutes after kick-off, Denmark led a great first half with a lavish performance, creating several scoring chances and conceding few to their opponents. Hjulmand’s side held out until the 54th minute, when Thorgan Hazard scored the equalizer. The entry of De Bruyne (an assist and a goal) definitely changed the course of the game and the Danes had to surrender to the higher technical rate of Martinez’s team.
The problem is that the second consecutive defeat of this European Championship put Denmark in the last place with 0 points and now for the qualification we need the company. Kjaer and his teammates should beat Russia, the next opponent in the last match of the group stage, perhaps with a couple of goals and at the same time hope that Lukaku and his teammates, already qualified for the round of 16, defeat Finland. Russia’s task was easier, beating Finland 1-0 to take second place in Group B, leaving behind the difficult debut against Belgium marked by a sensational 3-0. A draw would be enough for the Russians to go through, while Denmark would need a half miracle, as well as a combination of events in his favor to hope to see the second round not only from the sofa. Attention, however, to the home factor: it is played at Parken in Copenhagen.
