Serbia – Romania : Preview & Prediction
Serbia managed to start the campaign in a perfect manner, getting all three points away from Lithuania. The Ajax player, Dusan Tadic, was the one who scored the penalty in the first half, securing the victory of Mladen Krstajic’s students.
At the World Cup held earlier this summer, Serbia started with a great victory against Costa Rica with a score of 1-0 but suffered defeats at the limit against Switzerland (1-2) and Brazil (0-2), leaving the competition from the group stage.
Even though the Serbs have left the World Cup since the end of the group stage, they have shown a good game that continued in the debut of the UEFA Nations League campaign and it is hard for me to think Monday night against Romania, Matic & Co. will not rise once again to the expectations of Serbian supporters.
On the other hand, Rumanía has failed to maintain its excellent track record and reach 5 consecutive victories, draw 0-0 on Friday evening against Montenegro.
Selector Cosmin Contra placed players in a 4-2-3-1 tactical system with Claudiu Keseru in front of the offensive line, but the Romanians failed to send the ball to the goal area only 3 times against a weak team of Montenegrins.
For Monday’s match, Contra will not be able to rely on Chiriches, Pintilii, and Bicfalvi all injured. Chiriches’ defensive position will be taken by Mihai Balasa, while Pintilia will be replaced by Razvan Marin who was absent in the game against Montenegro due to a suspension.
Changes are also expected on the offensive stage, where Keseru and Maxim did not live up to expectations, and now there are chances to see them instead of Tucudean and Budescu.
