Servette and Sheriff Tiraspol are looking for their first win of the season in the UEFA Europa League (UEL) group stage, which makes this match particularly attractive after last month’s 1-1 draw. Their struggles on the continental stage aside, Servette have started to gain momentum domestically and come into this clash unbeaten in six matches in all competitions (G5, E1).
To have a good chance of extending that streak here, René Weiler’s side need to be more solid defensively as they have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their ten official home games so far this season. Sheriff can take great heart from the fact that they have achieved away European competition group stage wins in their last three such campaigns, including a historic and unforgettable 2-1 victory over Real Madrid in September 2021.
Players to watch: After a five-game goal drought, Chris Bedia scored in each of his last three games, but also picked up a yellow card in each of them. Jerome Ngom Mbekeli, meanwhile, has converted in his last two league games, but has yet to score in a European group stage clash.
