Servette – Sheriff Tiraspol Prediction (09-11-2023)

Servette – Sheriff Tiraspol : Preview & Prediction

Servette and Sheriff Tiraspol are looking for their first win of the season in the UEFA Europa League (UEL) group stage, which makes this match particularly attractive after last month’s 1-1 draw. Their struggles on the continental stage aside, Servette have started to gain momentum domestically and come into this clash unbeaten in six matches in all competitions (G5, E1).
To have a good chance of extending that streak here, René Weiler’s side need to be more solid defensively as they have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their ten official home games so far this season. That said, the Maroons have not lost this season after scoring the first goal (G8, E3), although one of those three draws came against Sheriff in the previous meeting between them.

Sheriff come to Stade de Genève at the last place in Group G, trailing their opponents on goal difference, but are unbeaten in six matches (G4, E2) since the 6-0 drubbing against Slavia Prague a month ago that led to Roberto Bordin’s dismissal. Since that catastrophic result, they have conceded just two goals and scored 16 times, but will be looking to write new history under Bordin’s successor, Roman Pylypchuk, with the team losing 1-0 in each of their last nine visits at European level.
Prior to the 1-1 draw against Servette, the Aurinegros’ only other meetings against Swiss sides were two defeats against Basel, but they occurred 13 years ago. Sheriff can take great heart from the fact that they have achieved away European competition group stage wins in their last three such campaigns, including a historic and unforgettable 2-1 victory over Real Madrid in September 2021.
Players to watch: After a five-game goal drought, Chris Bedia scored in each of his last three games, but also picked up a yellow card in each of them. Jerome Ngom Mbekeli, meanwhile, has converted in his last two league games, but has yet to score in a European group stage clash.
Key fact: In the last 16 halves of European soccer in which Sheriff took part there has been one goal registered.
