Slovan Bratislava – Lille Prediction (09-11-2023)

Slovan Bratislava – Lille : Preview & Prediction

While Slovan Bratislava put in a commendable effort in the reverse UEFA Europa Conference League (UECL) match against Lille to take a first-half lead, they could not hold on and eventually lost 2-1. They responded well to that defeat with three consecutive league wins, maintaining a healthy lead at the top of the Slovak Niké Liga, and now turn their focus back to the goal of overtaking Group A leaders Lille, who are only one point ahead of them.
Playing at home is usually a blessing for Slovan, who have lost only three times in their last 25 official matches here (G16, E6), and even one of those defeats was in extra time after a draw after 90 minutes. Their UECL fortunes at home have also been solid (G4, E3, P2), although as in the reverse fixture between the two teams a few weeks ago, the first team to finally score failed to win any of the last four clashes in that sequence.

Lille, currently in fifth place in Ligue 1, will surely travel to Slovakia full of confidence as they look to build on their performance as group leaders on matchday three, as well as looking to strengthen their grip on a place in the Round of 16 with a win in this clash. That will be easier said than done, however, as Les “Dogues” have a rather complex record and have just four wins in their last 14 European away matches (G4, E1, P9).
Improving that run is not guaranteed either, as Lille are on a rather worrying run of just one away win in all competitions since the 2-0 win over Toulouse in March (90 minutes: G1, E8, P4). Still, Lille have kept clean sheets in three of their last four official matches and will not make it easy for the home side, although with five of their last six away games producing two or fewer goals, this match could prove quite boring for neutral fans.
Players to watch: Everything Aleksandar Čavrić touches turns into a goal! The Slovan striker has scored goals in eight consecutive appearances (G9, A1), including four occasions when he opened the scoring. Edon Zhegrova could prove to be the catalyst for Lille after providing four assists in his last five appearances, contributing to a pair of Flashscore player of the match awards.
Key stat: Only one of Slovan’s last seven matches ended goalless in the first half.
