Tottenham – Everton Prediction (15-10-2022)

Tottenham – Everton : Preview & Prediction

A week after becoming the first away side in the Premier League (PL) to win at Brighton in seven months, Tottenham are looking to preserve their own home winning streak (G7) which, ironically, began after a defeat to Brighton in April 2022. Still confident of finishing the weekend in the top four in the standings no matter what happens here, Spurs’ lofty position in the table is a testament to their strength despite recently recording their first and only win of this PL season (G6, E2) in the North London Derby.
An entertaining first half in which defences struggled, against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League (G3-2) in midweek, helped Tottenham record back-to-back official victories for the first time in a month. As well as seeing Lucas Moura return from a two-month injury, manager Antonio Conte also rejoiced during the week at the likely return of Dejan Kulusevski, sarcastically describing it to a reporter as “good news for Everton: we should have everyone available”.
While he would certainly prefer to be involved in European competitions, Everton’s absence from those stages this season will help them deal with a busy October, which includes a visit to Newcastle after this clash. Excellent opportunities to pick up points beyond this pair of away games await, so if they can salvage something against Tottenham, they could move into the top half of the table in November.
Needless to say, manager Frank Lampard will want a better performance than the 5-0 defeat on his last visit to Tottenham, which was part of a run of seven consecutive away defeats in all competitions with which he began his Everton tenure. Indeed, Everton have struggled badly away from home in the Lampard era, with their 2-1 win at Southampton earlier this month being just their second PL win away from home under Everton (E3, P8), with the other coming in May against relegation contenders Leicester City.
Players to watch: Although he was visibly tired at the end of the win over Frankfurt, this visit of Everton could revitalise striker Harry Kane, having scored in seven of their last 10 official clashes against each other, including six PL braces. Tottenham have caused nightmares for Everton winger Demarai Gray, who has lost six of his 10 games against Spurs (G2, E2) without scoring a goal.
Weekend stat: Tottenham have scored in 14 PL games in a row (averaging 2.35 goals scored per game).
