Werder Bremen – Dortmund Prediction (11-02-2023)

Werder Bremen – Dortmund : Preview & Prediction

After securing promotion to the Bundesliga last season, Werder Bremen remain in the fight for qualification to European competitions after beating Stuttgart 2-0 last weekend to record two wins and two losses in the league since the end of the World Cup. “We managed to score our goals at the right times,” striker Marvin Ducksch said after he wrapped up the scoring with his side’s 13th Bundesliga goal this season after 75 minutes.

Bremen will need more goals against Borussia Dortmund, as they have not kept a clean sheet at home in the league since the end of October (G2, E2) and also have not beaten that opponent since December 2014 (E2, P4). They last kept a clean sheet at this venue against Dortmund in May 2011, so Bremen fans can be forgiven for not having high expectations for this match.

Title contenders Dortmund have made it four wins in as many games in 2023 after beating Freiburg 5-1 on Sunday with the biggest ovation of all reserved for Sebastien Haller when he scored his first goal for the club shortly after returning from treatment for testicular cancer. There was another admittedly less poignant highlight when Karim Adeyemi became the fastest Bundesliga player ever recorded in a match, reaching a top speed of 22.77 mph.

At least Bremen won’t have to worry about keeping up with him as they are suspended here, but Dortmund still have plenty of weapons, fast or otherwise, having won both of their away league games since the end of the World Cup. Yet to draw a game away from home in the Bundesliga this campaign (G5, P5), their all-or-nothing approach away suggests this could be another goal-filled day for “BVB”.
Players to watch: Bremen will be happy if Dortmund academy-trained Marvin Ducksch can score again, having won in all four of his Bundesliga appearances this season. Meanwhile, Gio Reyna could continue the trend of scoring goals in the final minutes of Bremen matches, having scored after the 75th minute in three of Dortmund’s last four games.
Key stat: There has only been one clean sheet in the last seven meetings between these sides (Dortmund: G3, E2, P2).
