Wolves – Nottingham : Preview & Prediction
Two weeks have passed since Wolverhampton Wanderers sacked Bruno Lage and they are still without a manager. There have been several candidates, and Julen Lopetegui seemed to be one of the leading candidates, but the Spaniard turned the team down. Now Steve Davis and James Collins are trying to guide the team to a first win since September (P3).
The team has avoided defeat in five of its last six home games, although there were only two wins in that run (E3, P1). In fact, the only defeat came against unstoppable Manchester City, so they will be hoping to get a good result from this clash against Nottingham Forest.
Bizarrely, Forest extended Steve Cooper’s contract despite winning one game in nine at the start of the season (E2, P6). A decision applauded by many, as the team needs time after signing 23 players last summer. However, with new sporting director Filippo Giraldi having sacked the chief scout and transfer boss, there is confusion surrounding satisfaction with the summer moves.
Cooper is among the few remaining from the excellent Forest side that won promotion, although there may be signs of improvement with the 1-1 draw against Aston Villa ending a five-game losing streak. Cooper described the draw as “a step forward” after conceding 18 goals in those five games lost, and the next step would be to win.
Players to watch: Daniel Podence’s goal in the 1-0 win over Southampton is the team’s only goal in more than eight hours of play. Emmanuel Dennis scored in his first top-flight start for Forest, and 10 of his 11 Premier League goals have come as a starter.
Weekend stat: Wolves are unbeaten in ten of their last 11 matches against newly promoted sides (G5, E5, P1).
