Faroe Islands – Liechtenstein Prediction (2021-06-07)

Faroe Islands – Liechtenstein : Preview & Prediction

The Faroe Islands (# 113 in the FIFA Rankings) lost to Iceland on Friday and thus failed to match their longest streak without losing at home (five matches), and recorded a third consecutive defeat in the process. Slow starts have been one of the culprits of late, as the Faroese have not gone into halftime ahead in a single match during their current seven-game winless streak (E3, P4).

However, the Faroe Islands’ last win came at home against tiny Andorra (# 158), after they opened the scoring within the first 20 minutes. Notably, in a streak dating back to 2004, each of his last ten home victories has seen him score first and as a result he led the score at halftime in eight of them, including the last meeting against his rival on duty disputed on the islands in 2018.

Little Liechtenstein lost 7-0 to Switzerland in their last outing, posting their worst loss since September 2017. They also conceded six or more second-half goals in that encounter for the first time since 2016, but will hope to get a recent result in this clash, as it has achieved its triumphs only against countries ranked below # 89 in the FIFA Ranking.

Not encouragingly, Liechtenstein also conceded three or more goals in eight of their last ten defeats and in each of the last three meetings between the two countries. Meanwhile, exactly half of the last 14 matches played by Liechtenstein on foreign soil have seen them lose both at halftime and at the end of the engagement, while they conceded the first goal in the first 20 minutes in the last four (E1, P3) .

Players to watch: Local captain Hallur Hansson has scored four of his last six official goals after the break, while Yanik Frick scored two of Liechtenstein’s four goals since the start of 2020. Nonetheless, the son of the all-time top scorer from Liechtenstein (Mario Frick) has also been booked in four of his last seven international appearances.
Highlight: Liechtenstein has conceded at least one goal during or after the 75th minute in each of its last seven away losses.
