Fulham – Leeds : Preview & Prediction
Fulham ended their lethargy by ending a run of five consecutive official defeats with a 3-1 win over struggling Everton last time out. Manager Marco Silva has cited his side’s “great achievement” in reaching 42 points – and thus virtually securing relegation – at this stage of the season, and will now be looking to spoil the day for another near-red zone side in Leeds.
Returning to Craven Cottage could be a boost for Fulham, and while they have lost their last two games here without scoring, they were unbeaten in their previous four home games, the last of which was a 2-0 win over Leeds in the FA Cup (G2, E2, P2). They also won the clash between them in the first round this season, and as a result are on course to beat Leeds in three consecutive meetings for the first time since their first meeting in 1920.
It was a sad Monday for Leeds, as a 6-1 defeat at the hands of Liverpool saw the Whites lose for the first time in consecutive league games in which they conceded at least five goals. Those goals contributed to an astonishing 16 goals conceded in April, which is at least eight more than any other Premier League club in that same period and more than they conceded between the start of 2023 and the end of March (15).
Leeds may have the breathing space that the four teams below them all lost on the previous matchday, but with only seven games remaining and just two points above the relegation zone, Javi Gracia’s side will surely have a nail-biting end to the season. Likewise, conceding six goals while scoring five in their last two away games suggests this could be another back-and-forth encounter in Leeds’ bid for relegation.
Players to watch: Fulham will be without loanee Daniel James for this game as he is ineligible and could look to Manor Solomon for support. He scored against Leeds in the last meeting between them at home as part of a run of five consecutive games in front of goal. Jack Harrison became the first Leeds outfield player to make 100 first-team appearances for the club since 2004 during Monday and could have something to say, registering four contributions on goal in his last six outings (three goals, one assist).
Key stat: Leeds has failed to win the majority of its league games in which it has opened the scoring (G5, E3, P4).
