Senegal was scared when it entered this CAN 2022. Yet big favorites of the competition, with Algeria in particular, the Teranga Lions had to wait until the very last seconds to overcome Zimbabwe. A penalty from Sadio Mané in the 97th minute allowed Aliou Cissé’s men to get started in this group stage (1-0). Despite several notable absences, the Senegalese supporters expected much better from their team for their first meeting in this CAN. Senegal will therefore be expected for its second day, and a match against Guinea. Aliou Cissé is not yet certain to see the return of his executives, such as Edouard Mendy or Kalidou Koulibaly, for this meeting. However, he will have a workforce capable of fighting for victory. However, it will be necessary to be much more precise in the last gesture, than when entering the running. Indeed, the Senegalese were very muddled against Zimbabwe, and did not reassure their supporters.
On paper, Guinea are Senegal’s main opponent in Pool B. And they got the job done on their first day. Kaba Diawara’s team offered themselves a precious victory against Malawi (1-0). A success that allowed him to fill up with confidence. Guinea will play their second match against Senegal without any pressure. This is only a bonus for the Guinean selection! Whatever the result of this poster, it will remain in contention to finish in second place, in the last meeting against Zimbabwe. Guinea could however fall on a Senegalese selection more motivated than ever. Aliou Cissé will certainly push his players to raise their level of play. It would therefore not be so surprising to see one of the favorites of this competition making a very strong impression for his second meeting.
