Cameroon – Egypt Prediction (03-02-2022)

Cameroon – Egypt : Preview & Prediction

Cameroon, five-time winner of the African Cup of Nations (1984, 1988, 2000, 2002, 2017), is only 90 or 120 minutes away from its 8th final in its history in this competition! Logical favorite because host country, Cameroon finds Egypt this Thursday evening in Yaoundé, and will try to take its revenge after two defeats in the final of the CAN 1986 (1-0 after shots on goal) and the CAN 2008 (4- 2) facing the Pharaohs. It was the Lyonnais Karl Toko Ekambi, author of a double last Saturday, which allowed Cameroon to easily get out of Gambia (2-0) in the 1/4 final. This is the first time that the Indomitable Lions have kept a clean sheet in this competition, after previous meetings against Burkina Faso (2-1), against Ethiopia (4-1), ahead of Cape Verde (1 -1) and against Comoros (2-1). Cameroon places two of its players among the first two places in the scoring charts, they are Vincent Aboubakar (6 goals) and Karl Toko Ekambi (5 goals). The country will be able to count on this beautiful doublet in attacking to try to break through the solid opposing defense, and perhaps lead their team to victory or qualification.

Egypt, for its part, encountered great difficulties to find itself in the last four. Indeed, the Pharaohs had all the trouble in the world to eliminate Ivory Coast (0-0, 5 tab 4) in the 1/8th finals, and Morocco (2-1 ap) in the 1/4 finals . Already during the group stage, Egypt seemed to experience enormous difficulties. Against the Atlas Lions last Sunday, Egypt was able to count on an exceptional Mohamed Salah, author of a goal (53rd) in foxing surfaces, and a very nice decisive pass for Hassan Trezeguet, following a solo number, during extra time (100th), when they were behind in the score from the 7th minute of play. Egypt, which has the record for CAN won (1957, 1959, 1986, 1998, 2006, 2010), will try to lift the cup for the 8th time in its history, but it will first have to take out the host country, before hoping to join Burkina Faso or Senegal in the final. Egypt has managed 3 clean sheets since the start of the competition but the latter has only won two games during regulation time (Guinea-Bissau and Sudan), and recorded a defeat against Nigeria (0-1) , while Cameroon is still undefeated after 5 games.

Cameroon beat Egypt (2-1) at CAN 2017, the date of their last face to face.

The Indomitable Lions are undefeated for 9 games: 8 wins and 1 draw.

Egypt have lost 3 of their last 7 matches.

The Pharaohs resorted to penalties and extra time against Ivory Coast and Morocco.

Cameroon didn’t have much trouble to knock out Comoros and Gambia in the previous two rounds.

This shock of the 1/2 finals should keep all its promises, but Egypt could lack physical freshness to the delight of Cameroon. Cameroon, with its very formidable attacking duo Aboubakar-Toko Ekambi (11 goals), should keep Egypt out of its way to reach a final long awaited by an entire people!
