Eintracht Frankfurt and Glasgow Rangers will compete against each other in the 2022 UEFA Europa League Final as both teams seek glory in Europe’s secondary elite club competition.
Whilst there is silverware at stake, there is also a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League Group Stage, too, therefore providing both sides with an added incentive to try and win this prestigious competition.
The game will be played on Wednesday, May 18, with fans descending upon the Spanish city of Seville as the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium will host the showpiece.
How did we get a Frankfurt vs Rangers final?
Naturally, both teams have had to play rather well in order to reach the UEFA Europa League Final, with both sides having had to face their own challenges with Vwin sports news covering all the details for the upcoming match.
Frankfurt have had a rather tough route to the final this season when you take into account the caliber of sides that they have had to knockout of the competition. The Round of 16 saw the Germans defeat Real Betis and many would have been expecting them to go out in the quarterfinals after seeing who they were drawn.
Indeed, the Bundesliga outfit were given perhaps one of the initial favorites to win the competition at the beginning of the knockout stages, as they needed to defeat FC Barcelona. Obviously, they had managed to do this, and their second leg contest at the Camp Nou was the reason why, as the team managed to produce an exceptional performance as they won 3-2 on the road.
Frankfurt were then handed a semifinal encounter against West Ham United and managed to successfully navigate that tie and book their place in Seville for the final.
Rangers had some equally difficulties that they needed to successfully navigate too, in order to be competing in the upcoming UEL Final, with things starting off incredibly difficult in the first knockout round of the competition after qualifying from the group.
First, the Glaswegians had to overcome the tough proposition of Borussia Dortmund in the playoff stage and managed to do so in convincing fashion after they defeated the German outfit 6-4 on aggregate.
Next up was a tricky two-legged encounter against FK Crvena Zvezda Belgrade (Red Star) which they managed to overcome before playing against SC Braga in the quarterfinals. Rangers had required extra time in order to progress, but in doing so, they were rewarded with their second Bundesliga opponent of the stage: RB Leipzig.
As we know, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side managed to defeat them to set up the encounter with Frankfurt in Seville, although they had to utilize the second leg to their advantage after suffering defeat in the first game.
What can we expect?
Football fans around the world that decide to watch the UEL 2022 Final should be able to anticipate a great final against two teams that may not regularly be watched due to the irregular final appearances that the sides have made in the past.
It is easy to make a case for both teams based on previous performances in the competition, with Frankfurt having already seen off strong opposition in regard to FC Barcelona and West Ham, whilst Rangers have experience in defeating Bundesliga outfits when everything is on the line.
