Since the beginning of this edition of the Champions League, Manchester City is considered as one of the big favourites, if not THE favourite. Last season’s finalists, Pep Guardiola’s team is dreaming of winning its first title in the premier European competition. And the Sky Blues are not off to a bad start! In the group stage, they finished first in their group, ahead of PSG in particular. And they have clearly not put their foot down for the last 16. Kevin De Bruyne’s teammates gave Sporting CP no chance, winning the first leg 5-0. Now the Manchester club must face Atletico Madrid for a place in the last four of the Champions League. The Premier League leaders, Manchester City, host the first leg. They will do everything to win in England, to put themselves in the best possible position before travelling to Spain. Especially since the Spanish coach’s players have an impressive schedule ahead of them: this match, the reception of Liverpool in the PL, the return to Spain against Altéti, and a match at Wembley against, once again, the Liverpool Reds in the FA Cup semi-final. What if Manchester City played their entire season in the space of 10 days?
Atletico Madrid’s path to the Champions League quarter-finals was not so easy. The Colchoneros had to wait until the final day of the group stage to finish in second place. They then faced Manchester United in the round of 16. After a 1-1 draw at home, Diego Simeone’s team created the exploit by winning at Old Trafford (1-0). It was enough to take them into the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Antoine Griezmann’s team-mates have just won their last six matches in all competitions. They can therefore come into this match full of confidence. However, it’s hard to imagine them pulling off the upset in the first leg of the quarter-final. Manchester City will be looking to win and take the lead in this double-header.
