It is certainly the selection that convinced the most during the group stage. As part of the outsiders at the start of the competition, Nigeria is now one of the favourites. It must be said that the Super Eagles did not do things by halves. Beating Egypt for their opening match (1-0), Augustine Eguavoen’s men rose to power against Sudan (3-1). And despite the first place already assured, Nigeria offered a third success in as many days against Guinea-Bissau (2-0). It is the only team in the group stage to have won its first three days. Moses Simon’s teammates can therefore approach this final phase with full confidence. Certainly, they will not have an easy task against Tunisia, in the round of 16. However, they have ample means to impose themselves in regulation time.
Tunisia had a very eventful group stage. After a rather incredible end to the match against Mali, with surprising refereeing decisions, which saw the Carthage Eagles lose (1-0), they were unlucky with the Covid-19. Winning easily against Mauritania (4-0), Mondher Kbaier had to deal with more than ten absentees for the last decisive match against Gambia. And they lost during this final meeting of the group stage (1-0). Certainly, Tunisia was still able to be part of the best third. However, it finds very heavy for the start of the final phase. Especially since it is not certain that the Tunisian selection will recover all those absent from the previous match. With a decimated workforce, Tunisia should not make the weight against Nigeria.

Nigeria is now one of the big favorites for this CAN 2022. The Super Eagles will do everything to get out of it with victory against Tunisia.
