Real Madrid have already done much of the work in this Champions League quarter-final. After their 3-1 win over PSG in the previous round, Madrid have clearly not put their foot down when they meet the defending champions Chelsea. Carlo Ancelotti’s team were travelling to Stamford Bridge in the first leg, however, and were far from being the only team to have won the first leg. They were therefore far from being the favourites for this match. However, the Merengues were able to count on Karim Benzema at the top of his game. The Madrid players will now have the chance to play in front of their fans for the second leg. They will be determined not to scare themselves and to win in order to reach the last four of the Champions League. The La Liga leaders were also able to build on their confidence with a 2-0 win at CF Getafe last weekend. It was a third consecutive win in all competitions.
Chelsea, for their part, were able to get back to winning ways just a few days after their Champions League defeat. Last Saturday, the Blues humiliated Southampton on their home ground (6-0). But is that enough to topple Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu? It’s hard to say for sure… It’s a good thing Thomas Tuchel’s side have lost two of their last three games in all competitions. The current third-placed team in the Premier League is likely to find itself in the Madrid capital. It’s a good thing they have to make up for a two-goal deficit against Real Madrid. Chelsea could therefore leave a lot of space for Madrid’s strikers. This situation could certainly do the business of Karim Benzema, but also of Vinicius Junior. That’s why we see the Spanish club taking revenge! A year after being knocked out in the semi-finals by Chelsea, Real Madrid could manage to knock out the London outfit this time around, winning both the first and second leg.
